🌎COP28 ran well into overtime as a draft agreement was widely rejected, but in the early hours of the morning, a final agreement was met with a standing ovation. Some argue the language has been watered down too much, while others celebrate “Transitioning away from fossil fuels in our energy systems, beginning in this decade, in a just, orderly and equitable manner so as to achieve net zero by 2050 in keeping with the science”

Other highlights include reference to:

Tripling renewable energy capacity

Doubling energy efficiency

Phasing down unabated coal

Limiting new and unabated coal power generation

Zero and low carbon fuels in use by 2050

Zero and low emissions technologies

Reducing methane emissions by 2030

Accelerating emissions reductions from road transport

Now is the time for action. We are excited to work with our framework suppliers and members towards achieving these goals.
