National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) celebrates the vital role apprenticeships play in shaping the workforce of tomorrow. This week-long celebration, which, this year runs from February 10 to 16, highlights the importance of apprenticeships in providing young people with valuable skills, hands-on experience, and opportunities for career advancement.
The theme for this year’s NAW is "Skills for Life," emphasizing the lifelong benefits apprenticeships offer to both individuals and businesses. LUPC launched its first ever Procurement apprenticeship programme last year and we’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our newest apprentice, Nicola Panico, to the team.
Nicola joined LUPC, as a Procurement Assistant in February 2025. He is one of two apprentices in LUPC's apprenticeship scheme. Coming from a different professional background, he is now focusing on learning and growing in a procurement setting, with the goal of assisting our team, focusing on growth and learning new skills.
Let’s get to know him a bit more!
Why did you decide to go for an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is the friendliest way for someone to be introduced to a new industry, as it provides tailored training and hands-on approach. It also helps with economical support as you will be working during the week, with one day dedicated to self-study. Hence, it is the most advantageous path to take if you are willing to get straight into a new career.
What is your favourite thing you have learned so far about Procurement?
My favourite thing about Procurement is surely the constant evolution it had throughout the years. Constantly changing and adapting to market requirements and technological advancements. Not to mention the involvement in many different industries, making it varied and a continuous source of knowledge.
What are your first impressions about working at LUPC?
LUPC is an organisation full of talented professional, that truly care about the services they provide. Overall, I must say the environment is very welcoming, professional and definitely supportive.
We look forward to working with Nicola!
Our other apprentice Ami has been very busy, recently passing all her CIPS Level 3 exams and looking forward to starting Level 4 in March, she is also starting to think about placements with members, so watch this space! You can read more about her experience on page 12 of the latest Linked Magazine.
